Israeli filmmaker Tali Shalom Ezer will direct Ellen Page and Kate Mara in the romance-drama “Mercy” with shooting set to begin in Cincinnati in September.
Ezer, who made her feature debut with “Princess,” will direct from a script by Joe Barton. Amy Seimetz, Pablo Schreiber and Elias Koteas have also been cast in key roles.
Producers are Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa for Killer Films along with Page and Mara. Executive producers are Robert Halmi Jr. and Jim Reeve through their Great Point Media and Karri O’Reilly.
Page is portraying Lucy, the daughter of a man on death row falling in love with Mara’s Mercy character, a woman on the opposing side of her family’s political cause. As a result, Lucy’s value for truth is tested as her world begins to unravel.
Page first revealed the then-untitled project last year during a news conference at the Zurich Film Festival, where “Freeheld” was screening, saying, “I’m focusing mostly on stories that are meaningful to me and stories for women and supporting more gay characters.”
“We’re doing a movie this fall [titled Mercy] with Ellen Page and Kate Mara that a young Israeli director named Tali Shalom Ezer, who did that film Princess, is directing.”
According to Killer, Mercy is a love story between the characters of Page and Mara, in which the daughter of a man on death row falls in love with a woman on the opposing side of her family’s political cause. As a result, her value for truth is tested as her world begins to unravel.
Looks like we should be catching up on the original 1990’s Flatliners! Keifer Sutherland dishes some info…
It turns out Sony Pictures’ “Flatliners” isn’t a remake of the 1990 sci-fi thriller but instead a sequel.
That clarification comes from Kiefer Sutherland, who reveals he isn’t playing just any “seasoned doctor,” but rather reprising his role from the original film.
“I play a professor at the medical university,” he told Metro. “It is never stated but it will probably be very clearly understood that I’m the same character I was in the original ‘Flatliners’ but that I have changed my name and I’ve done some things to move on from the experiments that we were doing in the original film.”
Directed by Joel Schumacher, 1990’s “Flatliners” starred Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt as medical students who conduct experiments on each other to produce near-death experiences in order to learn about the afterlife. Naturally, those experiments go horribly awry.
Directed by Niels Arden Oplev (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) from a script by Ben Ripley (“Source Code”), the new film also features Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton and Kiersey Clemens.
